Imagine for a moment that you’ve spent months preparing and creating something special.
You carefully designed every element—the colors, the details, the way it would function. Finally, it’s complete. You look at what you created, and it brings joy to your heart because you know exactly what it was created to do. You know its potential. You know its purpose. You know what it is capable of accomplishing because you designed it.
Then you set it out into the world, expecting it to fulfill that purpose.
But instead, it says, “I can’t do that. ”Maybe it refuses to do what it was designed to do. Perhaps it wanders in another direction, doing things that were never part of its intended purpose. Maybe it becomes distracted by everything around it and begins trying to look, act, and function like everything else.
Eventually, what you created with such intention loses sight of why it was created in the first place.
I imagine I would feel sadness and disappointment—not because I stopped loving what I created, but because I could see its potential even when it couldn’t see it for itself.
And as I thought about this, I began thinking about God.
The Bible tells us that God formed us in our mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13–14 reminds us that we are wonderfully made by Him.
Think about what that means.
God knows your design because He is your Designer.
He knows your gifts. He knows your strengths. He knows the experiences that have shaped you. He knows the things you don’t even recognize in yourself yet. And He knows your purpose. Sometimes, however, we don’t see ourselves the way God sees us. We look at what He is calling us to do and say, “I can’t do that. ”We see our weaknesses instead of His strength. We see our limitations instead of His provision. We compare ourselves to the people around us and begin trying to become more like the world instead of becoming who God created us to be.
Other times, we simply get distracted.
We wander away. We chase things God never called us to pursue. Fear holds us back. The opinions of others become louder than God's voice. Before we realize it, we may find ourselves far from where God intended us to be.
But here is what I want you to remember today:
God still sees you.
God still loves you.
God still knows what He placed inside you.
And God can still use you.
One of the most beautiful pictures of this is found in the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11–32.The son took his inheritance, left his father’s house, and squandered what he had been given. Eventually, he found himself broken and desperate.
Then he made a decision:
He would go home.
He expected to return as a servant. But when his father saw him coming from a distance, his father ran to him.
He embraced him.
He welcomed him home.
He clothed him in the best robe, placed a ring on his finger, and celebrated his return.
What a beautiful picture of the heart of God.
Our failures do not surprise Him. Our wandering does not erase His love. When we turn back to Him, He receives us with grace.
Maybe you have wandered away from what God has called you to do.
Maybe fear has kept you from stepping forward.
Maybe you have spent years believing you aren't qualified, equipped, talented, educated, strong, or courageous enough.
Maybe you have been so busy trying to fit into the world around you that you have forgotten you were never created simply to fit in—you were created to fulfill God's purpose for your life.
It's time to come back to the Father.
Philippians 4:13 says:
“For I can do all things through Christ, who strengthen me.”
This doesn't mean every dream or desire we have will automatically happen. It means that when God calls us, Christ gives us the strength to walk through what He places before us.
You don't have to accomplish your calling in your own strength.
You weren't designed to.
God is your Provider. Philippians 4:19 reminds us that God supplies our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 6:33 teaches us to seek "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you."
And 1 John 4:4 reminds us of another powerful truth:
"You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world"
The Holy Spirit lives within you.
You don't have to be controlled by fear.
You don't have to believe the lie that you aren't enough.
You don't have to know every step before taking the first one.
You simply need to trust the One who created you.
Maybe God is asking you to leave something behind.
Maybe He is asking you to step into unfamiliar territory.
Maybe He is asking you to start something you've been afraid to start.
Maybe He is asking you to use your story, your gifts, your experiences, or even the places where you once struggled to help someone else.
Whatever He is asking, remember:
The One calling you is also the One who created you.
He knows exactly what He placed inside you. So instead of looking at God's calling and saying, “I can't do that,” begin asking: “God, what can You do through me?”
You were created intentionally.
You were created uniquely. And you were created for a purpose.
Don't allow fear, distraction, comparison, past mistakes, or the opinions of the world to keep you from becoming all God has created and called you to be.
Trust Him. Follow Him. And take the next step.
Jesus, I pray for every person reading this who feels held back by fear, insecurity, distraction, or something from their past. Lord, help them see themselves through Your love and Your truth.
Reveal the purpose You have placed on their lives. Give them courage to take the next step, even when they cannot see the entire path ahead. Help us stop looking at our limitations and begin trusting in Your strength. Holy Spirit, guide our steps, give us wisdom, and lead us into everything You are calling us to become. Thank You, Lord, for Your goodness, Your grace, Your mercy, and Your unfailing love. Thank You that when we wander, we can return to You. And thank You that You never stop seeing the purpose You placed within us. Help us boldly step into all You have created and called us to be.
