Katie fondly recalls her childhood growing up in Valley City, North Dakota, in a devout Catholic family. Horses were a staple in her life—used for cattle work and family fun—but her rodeo journey began later in high school. Her love for barrel racing and rodeo was intertwined with her faith, shaping her into the resilient woman she is today.
Katie shares how her relationship with Christ evolved. Although she grew up with a strong knowledge of scripture and prayer, her faith became truly personal during college. A divine appointment introduced her to a friend who helped her rediscover the Bible and study it deeply. This rekindling of her faith became a cornerstone for her life, especially as she faced challenges and setbacks.
Her story of love is equally inspiring. Meeting her husband at a rodeo or bar, their relationship deepened through road trips and shared faith. Their marriage in 2021 and the joy of raising their two-year-old son highlight how faith continues to guide her decisions and life path.
In February, Katie faced one of her most daunting trials—a mare kicked her in the face, causing fractures, a concussion, and a slipped disc threatening paralysis. Her body’s natural protection erased the memory of the accident, but the pain and recovery journey were immense. She describes her months of immobility, pain management, and the emotional struggles with prayer and faith. Despite these setbacks, God's upstream miracle was evident. With determination and faith, Katie returned to riding by late spring, entering rodeos and competing again. Her story illustrates how sometimes, the greatest miracles happen hours in the making, upstream of our understanding, and we simply need to trust God's timing.
Katie’s resilient spirit shines through as she shares how prayer, scripture, and trusting God's plan helped her push through the pain and uncertainty. Her favorite Bible story of crossing the Jordan River reminds us that God often works upstream—stopping the flow of obstacles so we can walk through to victory.
Today, Katie’s accomplishments—qualifying for the Circuit Final, Rough Rider Cup and NDRA finals—are a testament to God's goodness. She recognizes that her journey is a miracle, and she attributes her strength and success to God's grace.
Katie’s story reminds us that even in our darkest moments, God is working upstream, preparing a miracle just for us. Her testimony encourages us to persevere, trust in His timing, and keep walking in faith, knowing that God's plans are always for our good.
We close today’s episode with a heartfelt prayer, thanking Jesus for His presence in Katie’s life, her recovery, and her ongoing journey. We pray blessings over her, her family, her horses, and all who are listening, that they may also see God's upstream miracles in their lives.
