In a heartfelt episode of Faith Conversation, Sarah Rose sits down with Tim Malm, a remarkable man whose story of resilience, faith, and perseverance is truly inspiring. From a life dedicated to rodeo to a life transformed by a traumatic brain injury, Tim’s journey exemplifies how faith can carry us through life's toughest challenges.

Tim’s story begins on June 6, 2010, a day that changed everything. An avid rodeo competitor, Tim had qualified three times for the National High School Finals Rodeo and was a reserve champion calf roper. That Sunday, while enjoying a day of riding horses and calf roping, an accident occurred that resulted in a severe brain injury—hemorrhaging of the brainstem and impairment of major functions.
Despite the severity of his injury, Tim’s unwavering faith in God became his foundation for recovery. “You had to have God,” he shares. “It’s like air—you need Him to survive.” His journey of healing has been a testament to the power of faith, hope, and perseverance.

Tim’s recovery has been ongoing for nearly sixteen years. Though he still works on walking independently, he remains spiritually resilient, trusting in God's promise of complete healing. “I am completely healed right now,” Tim affirms, “you just can’t see it yet.”
His faith is reflected in his writings, including two inspiring books: In His Time, a memoir about his journey back to rodeo and faith, and The Battlefield, a devotional based on the Book of Joshua. Through these works, Tim encourages others to trust in God's plan, no matter the circumstances.
Tim has also found innovative ways to share his faith and story. He created a line of coffee—Four Thirteen—symbolizing Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” The coffee bags and K-Cups serve as conversation starters about faith, strength, and resilience, making it easy to share the message of Jesus in secular spaces.
Throughout his journey, Tim credits his parents for their unwavering support. His father played a pivotal role in helping him accept Christ at age eleven, just after September 11th, and his mother’s journaling inspired one of his books. Their steadfast faith and love continue to be a source of strength.
Tim emphasizes that everyone’s story is unique and that Christ’s sacrifice is the ultimate source of hope. “He went through pain and suffering on the cross for us,” he reminds us. His message is clear: no matter how many times we are knocked down, the key is how we get up—with faith, hope, and the support of those around us.
As the episode concludes, Tim encourages listeners to use everyday tools—like coffee—to spark conversations about Jesus and His love. “Make His story bigger than ours,” he says. Whether through a cup of coffee or sharing your testimony, each of us can be a light to others.
