Faith in Action: An Uplifting Conversation with LaTricia Duke

In a world swirling with chaos and uncertainty, there’s something deeply comforting about hearing honest stories of faith, perseverance, and trust in God's divine plan. Recently, I had the privilege of hosting a soul-stirring faith conversation with LaTricia Duke, a remarkable woman whose journey of resilience and unwavering faith is nothing short of inspiring.

A Beautiful Day for a Faith Talk

 LaTricia to introduce herself, and she opened her heart with genuine humility. She shared about her upbringing on a large ranch, where she was the youngest and only girl among her family. Her childhood was filled with the love of horses, hard work, and faith in God's goodness. Her journey as a horse trainer began in college, and for years, she envisioned a lifelong career in the rodeo arena.

Her story took an emotional turn when she spoke about Vanilla Wafer, her beloved stallion, and her transition into rodeo competition. After retiring Vanilla Wafer last year, LaTricia believed her rodeo days were over—until God's bigger plan unfolded with Carlos, a colt she started riding in September.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

God’s Plan Unfolds in Unexpected Ways

LaTricia described how Carlos, seemingly just another horse, became a divine blessing that healed her wounded heart. She recounted her doubts about qualifying for rodeos, the fear of letting go of her dreams, and how she almost didn't enter the building rodeos. Yet, through faith and prayer, she witnessed God's miraculous touch in Carlos’s performances—winning in the super series, placing second in semifinals, and third in finals.

Her words echoed a powerful truth: God’s plan is often bigger and more beautiful than we can imagine. 

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

She emphasized that Carlos’s success was no coincidence but a testament to divine intervention, anointed by God for a purpose beyond her understanding.

Ephesians 3:20 - Now to him who is able to do immeasurably ...Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) states: "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us".

The Power of Surrounding Yourself with Faith-Filled Community

Our dialogue shifted to the importance of community—being surrounded by people who uplift and inspire us in faith.  She admitted her human imperfections—struggling with tempers, mistakes, and doubts—but highlighted that God's grace covers it all. Her honesty about her vulnerabilities resonated deeply; it reminded me that even the strongest among us are in process, continually growing in faith.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Walking Through Trials with Faith and Forgiveness

LaTricia’s testimony of hardship was powerful. She opened up about personal struggles—her marriage ending painfully, battling depression, and the temptation to give up. Her turning point came in tears, kneeling in her barn, surrendering her desires and trusting God's sovereignty. She shared how she wrestled with feelings of anger and resentment but ultimately learned forgiveness, releasing hate from her heart.

Her story underscored a profound lesson: God's peace often comes in the valley—when we are broken, humbled, and willing to surrender. She emphasized that the journey of healing is gradual, filled with ups and downs, but rooted in trusting God's timing.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Trusting God's Timing and His Bigger Picture

One of the most encouraging parts of our conversation was discussing how God orchestrates our lives in ways we can't see in the moment. LaTricia reflected on her decision to go home from rodeos, feeling devastated but trusting God's plan. She recounted how, after relinquishing control, blessings flowed—her horses, her career, and her peace. Her story reminded me of the biblical truth: God’s timing is perfect. Even when circumstances seem to fall apart, God is working behind the scenes—shaping, refining, and preparing us for greater things.

A Heart for Divine Appointments and Evangelism

We talked about the importance of divine appointments—those moments when God puts someone in our path for a specific purpose. LaTricia shared her heartfelt prayer to reach others for Christ, even in the rodeo arena, and her desire to be a light in a sometimes dark world. She expressed her hope that her story might inspire just one person to seek Jesus, to experience His peace, and to realize that no matter how broken or lost we feel, God's love is greater.
