Sometimes we think that God will only work through big, dramatic moments. But the truth is, He uses each and every one of us in our daily circumstances.
As Ephesians 2:10 reminds us: "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
I want to be ready and attentive to those moments when God calls on me.
This week, I fell short. One day, I was standing in line at the gas station. In the other register, a young woman was trying to pay for her gas. It looked like her card wasn’t working at the pump, so she came inside to use the station’s card reader. I didn’t think much of it at first—I've had similar problems with my cards before. She tried to use the register, but that didn’t work either. The casher then suggested she go to the ATM to get cash.
Everything seemed fine, but something inside my spirit was unsettled.
I sensed I should help her—perhaps offer to pay for her gas—but I hesitated. My mind started racing: How do I do that? Do I go to her directly? Maybe I should ask the cashier. What if it’s just a bad card? Would I embarrass her?
Meanwhile, there were about six people behind me in line. It was a bit of a panic—feeling the pressure to hurry.
The cashier was bagging my items, and a woman behind me leaned forward and handed the cashier a $20 bill, saying, “This is for the girl’s gas.”
My heart sank. God was trying to use me, but I wasn’t obedient.
I was grateful that someone stepped up and helped, but I couldn’t help but wonder: How many other times have I missed an opportunity to serve?
What if there wasn’t anyone else in line? What if the act of kindness God was calling me to do was just for me—and I missed it?
I want to encourage you today: if you feel that little nudge inside—perhaps it's a message, a helping hand, or a simple act of kindness—be quick to obey.
Listen and respond. Maybe it’s paying for someone’s gas, buying a meal, or just offering a kind word.
When we are obedient in those small moments, we become part of God's plan to bless others. Imagine if we all took that step—being first in line to serve.
How much more could God do through us to bless those around us?
Let’s remember, as Galatians 6:9-10 says: "Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people."
Be attentive to those “little nudges”—they might just be God's way of using you to change someone’s life today.
