As part of my ministry, I host rodeo clinics that are offered at no cost to those who attend. This year, we had the privilege of organizing a roping clinic, and I’d like to share the purpose behind it and express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made it possible. The "Your Fees Are Paid" Organization is a nonprofit dedicated to serving youth through rodeo and faith-based initiatives.
In May 2026, we hosted an incredible Roping Clinic in Huron, SD, that brought together over 80 young rodeo ropers from South Dakota and surrounding states. This event was part of a larger gathering with approximately 200 attendees. This one-and-a-half-day weekend clinic offered intensive instruction in calf roping, team roping, and breakaway roping. But beyond teaching roping skills, it was also a spiritual journey—an opportunity for young participants to grow in their faith while developing their rodeo talents.
event was organized by Lisa Burley and Sarah Rose and was entirely self-funded, thanks to generous donations and support from our community, including contributions to meals that kept everyone energized and focused. Throughout the event, participants received hands-on instruction from over 15 local professionals and experienced rodeo athletes. They learned essential skills in roping techniques, horse care, safety practices, and holistic health approaches to keep both themselves and their horses healthy and competition-ready.
The clinics covered important topics such as saddle fitting, equipment maintenance, injury prevention, and recognizing signs of horse health issues—valuable tools that will serve them for years to come. Beyond the technical skills, a key component of this event was spiritual growth. Participants engaged in age-appropriate sessions designed to deepen their relationship with God. They explored biblical stories related to horses and rodeo and learned how to incorporate prayer and faith into their daily lives and rodeo pursuits.
Organizer Sarah Rose emphasized, “This was more than just roping; it was about sharing God’s love with these kids and helping them grow in faith and character.” This event aimed to empower the next generation of rodeo athletes—building their skills, confidence, and spiritual foundation. The positive feedback from participants, parents, and volunteers has been overwhelming, and we’re already looking forward to future clinics that will continue to inspire and nurture young talent.
